Leaving Idaho is always bittersweet for us. For us, Idaho means getting to spend time with our good friends, Don and Jeanie Helsley at the Helsley Ranch just outside of Boise, Idaho (http://www.helsleyranch.com). This fall we had fabulous weather for their annual Helsley-Shannahan Sheep Camp. And, as always, beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
During Sheep Camp, Lisbeth joined Jeanie in the kitchen to create some great dinners for all of us, while Linda and Liddy helped Don with some of the sheep tending. Don always brings in fresh range ewes for the participants. So, being here at this time of year is an added bonus. On the menu, this year, was everything from a whole turkey dinner to the Saturday night special of Mexican style carne asada with all the trimmings. Of course, Lisbeth’s specialty, jalapeno poppers, was also part of fare!
Unfortunately, Don and Jeanie came down with pretty bad colds during the four day event. First Don, then Jeanie, just as things were wrapping up. But, it didn’t keep Sheep Camp from being a big hit!
We will be sad to leave our friends tomorrow. Especially knowing it might be another 6 months before we all get together again–unless everyone makes it to Snowbirds On-the-Border Sheepdog Trial(http://www.caninesnewe.com) in Campo, California over the first of the year! We always have such a good time visiting and jabbering and laughing. Time always goes by too fast. And, there is never enough of it. Nevertheless, at this time of year, with temperatures dropping and storms looming in the near future, it is time for us to aim Lazy 3 in a southerly direction towards our winter home in San Felipe, Mexico. (We just barely missed a heavy snowfall in Fort Collins this year. Thank heavens our good friend, Cathleen, was there to look after the place on Pheasant Lane!)
Tomorrow we head for just south of Reno, Nevada, where we will meet up with our Canadian RVing friends, Lynda and Sharron. A brief stop in Palm Springs to stock up on a few staples before heading across the border on November 8, 2011.
More to come….
Linda
